“Back to the Roots was born out of the need to showcase a part of Costa Rica that is not being represented as it truly is. This project aims to highlight the pride that Afro-Caribbean people feel in showing where they come from and who they truly are, through parades, celebrations, dances, and even by crafting their own outfits from scratch using imported fabrics and everyday objects such as clothing presses.”
